Your Next Visit

The American Academy of Pediatrics recommends the following well visits, which we provide.  The chart below lists some developmental milestones and the vaccination schedule.  If your child has not reached the developmental milestones at the ages indicated, bring this to our attention either at your child’s next well visit, or give us a call.  All children are different and this is often not a reason for concern.

Good head control, coos, sits with support

6 Months

VEP/Suresight*; Flroride supplementation begins 
Bears weight on legs, engages with other people, grasps and transfers objects

9 Months
IPV, Hep B  Sleeps through the night, sits without control, babbles

12 Months
Hep A, PCV, HIB;
Lead & Hemoglobin 
Cruises, mature pincer grasp, points with index finger

15 Months
MMR, Varicella;
MCHAT** 
Walks independently, speak 3 words, points with index finger

18 Months DTaP, Hep A;
M-CHAT**
Walks well, runs, enjoys scribbling, has at least 8 word vocabulary

2 Years Lead & Hemoglobin
M-CHAT**, OAE** 
Speaks in 2 word phrases with at least a 50 word vocabulary

2  1/2 Years
(Yearly exam, 3 years to 18 years of age)

Developmental skills continue to be assessed at each visit 
(including school performance) 

4 Years
IPV, MMR, Varicella, DTaP

11 Years Meningitis, Tdap, HPV (for girls)

12 Years
HPV (for girls)
Hemoglobin (menstruating adolsecents) 
Note: 2 Varivax vaccines are now recommended, for children over 4 who only received one Varivax, a catch-up dose will be given at the next scheduled checkup.

Note:

(1) 2 Varicella Vaccines are now recommended; for children over 4 years old who have only received one Varicella Vaccine, a catch-up dose will be given at the next checkup.

(2) Yearly flu vaccines are recommended for children ages 6 months through 18 years.

* VEP/Suresight-2 distinct vision screens one of which is done yearly starting at 6 months through 8 years of age.

** MCHAT-an autism screening tool at 15, 18 & 24 months.

*** OAE-a hearing screen that is done yearly from 2 through 10 years of age.
